The primary aim of a National HWC Mitigation database in India is to facilitate information management on conflict situation and strengthening our understanding of the drivers of HWC and effectiveness of the mitigation measures. This would support evidence-based decision-making and policy formulation for HWC mitigation at the national level.
The national database facilitates the states in implementing state and division level HWC mitigation plans by providing conflict hotspot maps, monitoring of drivers of conflict in their states, and also assessing the effectiveness of mitigation measures.
The trend analysis can also be used for further strengthening capacity development measures for specific target group, species, and sites/landscapes. This will also help the government in prioritizing the research needs for the country, and research agenda for national training institutions.
National Database on HWC directly contributes to “Implementation Objective 11: Regular spatial and temporal dynamics of conflicts may be assessed for formulating and implementing state level strategy for management of Human-Wildlife Conflicts” under Target 15.7 of Niti Ayog SDG Goal 15: Life on Land.
